The Lesson:

This week, the Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon manual asks us to read 2 Nephi 1-5. In the Latter Day Parables, Auggie, May, and Dad play a game. Auggie gets upset because he keeps ending up in jail. Dad compares this to the scripture 2 Nephi 2:27. He explains that we are free to choose. We can choose liberty and eternal life, or we can choose captivity and death. Auggie declares that we would very much like to choose liberty.

Before reading the story, read 2 Nephi 1 – 5. Get an understanding of the scripture 2 Nephi 2:27. Read the story to your children and use the Dad, Auggie, and May cut-outs as puppets as you go along. After reading the story, play the free game provided in the Quick Clicks below!

The game should help young children understand how choosing captivity (like different addictions) limits us to continue on the path towards eternal life. Making good choices helps us to progress while making poor choices keeps us from moving forward. The game also shows how wonderful it is that we are free to choose! Throughout the game there are several opportunities to choose between different things.

What You Need:

1. Cut-outs of Dad, Auggie, and May. If you haven’t yet, download the free Original Latter Day Parables Family cut-outs to get your visuals for this week’s story. Print, cut out, and laminate the cut-outs and then store them in your Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon Binder for future use.
2. “Choose Liberty” story. Provided in the Quick Clicks below are two PDF documents of the story that you can download for free. Print out the story and store it in your Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon Binder.
3. Free to Choose Game. Provided in the Quick Clicks below is a free print out of the game along with its instructions. You will need your own dice to play, but also provided in the Quick Clicks are Latter Day Parable Game Pawns you can print out if you’d like!
