Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon. Week 4: 1 Nephi 11 – 15

The Lesson:

This week, the Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon manual asks us to read 1 Nephi 11-15. In the Latter Day Parables, Auggie wants to understand the meaning of the vision of the Tree of Life. Mom explains the symbolism of each element in a more simpler way.

Before reading the story, get familiar with the vision of the tree of life. If necessary, you can use last week’s lesson to help teach your children the idea. Read 1 Nephi 11 to see Nephi’s interpretation of his father’s vision and gain your own understanding of the symbolism.

Because younger and older children read the Latter Day Parables, attached in the Quick Clicks below are different versions of the story. One is more suited for a younger audience. It is written in a way they may understand. Likewise, there is another one written for kids that are not toddlers. Decide which story might be better for your own children and download the free story below. Use the puppets as you tell the story! You can also use pictures of the vision of the Tree of Life from the Gospel Art Library.

What You Need:

  1. Cut-outs of Auggie and Mom. If you haven’t yet, download the free Original Latter Day Parables Family cut-outs to get your visuals for this week’s story. Print, cut out, and laminate the cut-outs and then store them in your Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon Binder for future use.
  2. “Understanding the Vision” story. Provided in the Quick Clicks below are two PDF documents of the story that you can download for free. One is for younger kids and the other is for older kids. Decide which story would be more easily understood by your child, print out the story and store it in your Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon Binder.
