The Lesson

This week, the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual asks us to read Matthew 10-12, Mark 2, and Luke chapters 7 and 11. Read these scriptures before getting together with your children so you can know how to best teach them. In the Latter Day Parables, Auggie declares Sunday’s are boring. Mom reminds him of the scripture Matthew 12:12. “Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.” May, Mom, and Auggie think of different things to do on the Sabbath day and ultimately decide to bake and deliver cookies. As they bake, they come up with more ideas!

Explain to your child what the scripture means when it says, “it is lawful to do well.” After reading and discussing the story, try the Sabbath Day Cookies Activity. Start with all the cookies Velcro-ed to the cookie sheet. One by one, have your child remove a cookie and go over the picture beneath the cookie. Once you’ve finished the Sabbath Day Cookies Activity, come up with different ideas for your family on the Sabbath together. Better yet, eat some delicious cookies as you think. You can write these ideas down or have your child draw a picture of an idea (she could draw a picture of the family going on a walk).

    1. It’s so fun to hear how everyone plans to incorporate the parables in their lives! I haven’t heard from someone who is using these for a primary class yet! How exciting! That age group is exactly what I’m aiming for!
