Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon. Week 2: 1 Nephi 1 – 7

The Lesson:

This week, the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual asks us to read 1 Nephi 1 – 7. In the Latter Day Parables, May is afraid she won’t be able to keep the commandments. Mom reminds her that it’s important to “go and do” like Nephi did. Nephi knew that God provides a way for His children to follow His commandments. May is more willing to “go and do” after realizing that God will help her along the way.

Before the story, read 1 Nephi 1 – 7 and gain an understanding for yourself. Read “Go and Do” to your children and use the puppets as you tell the story. Give a background to the scripture Mom shares and explain how Lehi’s family was commanded by God to go back to Jerusalem to get the brass plates. Nephi knew that if this was a commandment given by God, He would provide a way. And God did! Nephi was able to slay Laban and obtain the precious records. Tell your children that some commandments may be hard to keep, but if we try hard, God will help us along the way.
