The Lesson:
This week, the Come, Follow Me: Book of Mormon manual asks us to read Alma 13-16 In the Latter Day Parables, Auggie thinks the priesthood power will be his. Dad explains to Auggie in a simple way that the priesthood is God’s power. Worthy men who are righteous may use God’s power to bless and serve others.
Before reading the story, read Alma 13-16 and gain an understanding of it for yourself. This lesson is connected to the scriptures Alma 13:1-2, 6, and 16. As you tell the Latter Day Parable, use the visuals provided in the Quick Clicks below. After reading, have your children repeat, “the priesthood is the power of God.” You can ask them if they know of any duties priesthood holders do. Children may recognize that the priesthood power is used when blessing and passing the sacrament, or when giving a blessing, or when baptizing. The priesthood can be a complex thing to talk about, so make sure you talk about it in a simple way they can understand.
