For the week of January 21-27, the Come Follow Me for Individuals and Families Manual focuses on John 1. In the Latter Day Parables story for this same week, Auggie and his family gather for Family Home Evening when all of the sudden, the power goes out! Using the power outage as a great object lesson, Auggie’s Dad teaches the similarities between light and the gospel.
Along with the lesson, you too can use flashlights and phone lights as an object lesson. Show the difference between a dim phone light and continue to add more and more light. Discuss with your children how shining a light is like sharing the gospel. Provided is a life sized cut out of a flashlight! Teach your children about the apostle John as well.
What you need:
- Cut-outs of the whole Latter Day Parables Family (Auggie, Mom, Dad, and April specifically), and cut-outs of a Phone, Flashlight, and John 1 Scripture Screen. Print (cardstock is preferable), color, cut, and laminate (for durability) the cut-outs to give the story a visual. Provided below is a PDF copy of the Phone, Flashlight, and John 1 Scripture Screen. Keep the phone cut-out for future use. In the weeks to come, more scripture screens will be provided and will be interchangeable on top of the phone (You can Velcro or tape the “screens” to your phone each time). If you haven’t already printed out the Latter Day Parables Family yet, click here to download the original PDF file to use from here on out. Store your cut outs in a Come, Follow Me 2019 Binder for future use.
- “Shine Your Light” story. You can print out either the Word or PDF documents below to tell the story and save the copy in your Come, Follow Me 2019 Binder.
