A few years ago, we were paying rent in a town home. And because of this, I didn’t get to paint walls or cabinets, replace counter tops, add cute backsplash to my kitchen walls. So how on earth can a home feel like home if you can’t make these renovations?
I learned that decor, decor, decor makes your home feel like home! I LOVE decorating my home. ESPECIALLY for the holidays! I was so excited to get my tiered tray, just in time for the fall season! A tiered tray can add so much life and color all in one little corner. I love it. I got mine from Amazon. This is what it looked like when my blah townhome kitchen got a festive makeover:
Now, for the fall season, if you’re especially into farmhouse type decor, I’d highly recommend painting a Buffalo Check Pumpkin. My two pumpkins work from September to November. Although they took a lot longer to paint than I thought, I have absolutely no regrets in making them! You can click here to see my Buffalo Check Pumpkin DIY tutorial!
If I can find things cheaper, or find a great way to DIY, I’m all for it! Don’t tell anyone, but a lot of what I get for my tiered tray decor is from TJ Maxx, Walmart, or The Dollar Tree. If I can’t find what I need from there, it’s time for DIY!
I have now moved into a house with a much prettier kitchen. Haha! It’s amazing what backsplash and fun countertops can do! And I’ve since added more decor near my tiered tray because I just can’t help it!
Who likes free prints for DIY projects? I do! You can create this 31 October tile as well! At the bottom of this page, I’ve provided a free 4×4 printable for you to modge podge yourself!
Materials Needed:
- 4×4 Wooden Coaster
- Sandpaper
- White Acrylic Paint
- Paint Sponge Brush
- Modge Podge
- 31 October DIY Free Printable
To start this project, I found 4×4 Wooden Coasters at Walmart. A pack of 4 was for less than $4! Sweet! I found these in the craft area- you know where there’s a lot of wooden things that you can paint.
I would advise you to print out the 31 October DIY Free Printable several hours in advance so the ink can dry. That way when you’re modge podging the picture onto your coaster, the ink won’t smear everywhere.
After sanding the coaster down, I painted both sides with white acrylic paint. It took about 3 coats each side. Expect 10 minutes to dry before applying another coat of paint.
Cut out your 31 October DIY Free Printable. Since the coaster is 4×4 and the printable is 4×4, I’d say to cut a little further past the gray line provided. With a sponge brush (I just washed and dried the same one I used for the paint), spread modge podge all along your coaster and lay your 31 October DIY Free Printable down carefully over the modge podged coaster. Gently rub the paper onto the coaster, making sure there are no bubbles.
After a few minutes, VERY LIGHTLY apply modge podge over the top of the paper. Make sure to paint your strokes all in the same direction. Don’t worry, the modge podge will look thick at first but it will dry and look clear. Now, I say to apply very lightly because this is paper and ink you are working with. If applied too harshly, the ink will smear a bit. I speak from experience. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! If you’d like, you can apply a second coat of modge podge after the first coat is completely dry.
There you have it! I hope this page was helpful in accomplishing your DIY-able decorative dreams! You can download the 31 October DIY Free Printable below!
Super cute! Where did you get the ghost candy jar? I have looked several places, but can’t find one.
Thank you,
Sandi
I found this one at TJ Maxx!
