Ever since I can remember, my grandpa would make these biscuits for us whenever we would visit my grandparents. When my grandpa cooks or bakes, he seldom uses a recipe. He usually just throws things together and it becomes a masterpiece. I was so excited to receive a recipe of these biscuits, written in his own handwriting!
Nothing beats biscuits from scratch! I have seen my mom and my grandpa use a pastry cutter to cut and mix the dough. I prefer to not kill my wrist to make myself some biscuits! I use my kitchen aid! And when it’s time to roll out the dough, I actually don’t use a rolling pin. I just flatten it out with my hands, cut the circles, bunch the dough back into a ball, then flatten it out with my hands again.
When it comes to cutting the biscuits into circles, you obviously want the right size and thickness. I feel like cookie cutters wouldn’t be thick enough to cut through the dough. I personally use a glass cup to cut mine. Make sure that if you use a cup, that it’s about the right size circumference. You don’t want teeny tiny biscuits!
Now, you can omit the melted butter part if you’d like, but I wouldn’t advise it! The butter adds to the amazing and flaky taste! Mmmm! Delicious! These are the PERFECT biscuits for country gravy!
