This week, the Come, Follow Me for Individuals and Families manual asks us to read Matthew 8-9 and Mark 2-5. May wakes up from a bad dream and calls for Mom. To comfort May, Mom tells her about Jesus calming the storm, saying “Peace be still.” She gives May a little tip on how to help her bad dreams go away by singing primary songs until she feels better again.
Show your children the “Jesus Calms the Sea” picture as Mom tells May the story. Ask your children about a time when they felt scared. No one likes to feel afraid. It’s kind of like a scary storm. We want to feel happiness, like the sun! As an activity, show the storm visual to the children and together, sing a primary song that makes them feel happy. My daughter loves to sing “I am a Child of God.” Very slowly during the song, put down the storm visual and bring out the sun. You can try with multiple songs. If we invite the spirit through song, we can make our own scary storms go away like Jesus did!
What you need:
- Mom, May, Bed, Storm Clouds, and Sun cut-outs. If you haven’t already, click here to print out your Original Latter Day Parables Family so you can have your May and Mom cut-outs. Store the family in your Come, Follow Me 2019 Binder for future use. After printing out, cutting, and laminating your Storm Clouds and Sun cut-outs, add popsicle sticks so you can hold them properly. Cut the Bed cut-out along the blanket line so you can slide May into the bed.
