Easy Shepherd’s Pie

Easy Shepherd’s Pie

My mom has made this Shepherd’s Pie for me since I was little. It’s a comfort food to me! However, I remember once not having the recipe on hand and hunting all over the internet for a recipe that was similar to what I had as a child. There are SO many different kinds of Shepherd’s Pie recipes out there! But none of the recipes matched what I have grown up with! So, I’m giving the internet yet another Shepherd’s Pie recipe for anyone to use!

When I was in college, I made this dish and sent some extra to a friend across the dorm hallway. He gushed about how amazing it was! He told me to not tell anyone, but my shepherd’s pie is better than his mom’s! Haha! Well, I’ll make sure not to put his name on here so the secret is kept safe.

This is an extremely easy recipe. Just brown the hamburger, add the green beans and tomato soup, plop that into a pan, spread mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle cheese over all! Not only is this easy, but it’s soooo good!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • Seasoning salt, to taste
  • Dash of Garlic Powder
  • 1 can Tomato Soup
  • 1 can French Style Green Beans, drained.
  • 3 cups Prepared Instant Potatoes
  • 1 cup Grated Cheddar Cheese (I use more if needed)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven 350 degrees. Brown ground beef in a skillet on medium heat. At the same time, prepare instant potatoes as per the box instructions. Once the ground beef is browned, drain grease and add seasoning salt and garlic powder. Add tomato soup and green beans to the skillet and mix. Turn off burner. Pour ground beef mixture to a greased 8×8 cake pan. Spread instant potatoes over the mixture. Sprinkle cheese over the top of the potatoes. Bake in the oven for 20-30 minutes.
*I stir some cheese in the instant potatoes as I’m preparing it to make the meal cheesier.

  1. I love this recipe, I made for supper tonight but we used frozen mixed veggies. So so yummy! And I also only used ground pepper instead of seasoning salt and garlic powder.

  2. 5 stars
Perfect. This is the only one I will eat. It was in my Better Homes and Garden cookbook I received in 1982. I haven’t made it in years but I plan to make it soon.
