A Dwelling of Love From a Welling Who’s Loved

Holiday Cookies for Kids

Holiday Cookies for Kids

Ever since I can remember, my mom had always baked Holiday Cookies for me and my sisters for almost every holiday. It was such a fun and festive tradition we looked forward to. In fact, I recall when I was six, being so excited for Halloween that I begged my mom to bake these cookies. She did. And it was September.

Make these cookies a tradition with your kids! I am now a mother and bake these cookies with my daughter! She loves to be my helper! As kids, we loved helping our mom use the cookie cutters, watching the cookies bake, and then getting to decorate our cookies however we wanted with piles and piles of sprinkles! Usually when a holiday comes around, cookie cutters for that holiday generally are on sale at the store. And I think they’re pretty cheap! I actually don’t have Four Leaf Clover cookie cutters! I haven’t seen any at the store! So I just hand-cut them out with a butter knife. So if you don’t have cookie cutters, a knife works fine too!

I personally think these cookies taste best with Cream Cheese Frosting. I just buy a tub at the store. When it’s time to bake the cookies, I scoop out the frosting in bowls and mix different colors (and I mean hey, one Halloween, I just made orange frosting and the cookies tasted fine. You don’t need 17 different colors!). Make sure the cookies are cool before you frost them, otherwise the frosting gets super soupy.

Don’t stress about making these cookies perfect. Just have fun making memories with your kids!

A wonderful tradition of baking sugar cookies cut in fun holiday shapes and frosted with your kids!
Course Dessert

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 cups flour
  • Cream Cheese Frosting

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Cream together sugar and margarine. Dissolve the baking soda in the milk. Leaving out the flour, add all the other ingredients to the sugar and margarine. Once all creamed together, add flour. If the dough still sticky, add more flour. Roll dough out with a rolling pin (about 1/2 inch thick, they’ll rise in the oven). Depending on the holiday or occasion, use festive cookie cutters and line your cut dough on a cookie sheet. Continue to re-roll the dough and cut until the dough is gone. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
While the cookies bake, get out the cream cheese frosting and mix food coloring colors together (I usually have a bowl or two of different colors). When the cookies are done, allow them to cool so the frosting won’t drip. You can add sprinkles as well!
